Navy sonar blamed for death of beaked whales found washed up in the Hebrides
Anti-submarine sonar may have killed a group of whales found dead in the Hebrides in one of Britain's most unusual strandings, scientists believe. Five Cuvier's beaked whales, a species rarely seen in British waters, were discovered on beaches in the Western Isles on succeeding days in February. Another animal from a related species was discovered at the same time. Experts consider such a multiple stranding to be highly abnormal. They calculate, from the state of the carcasses inspected that the whales died in the same incident out in the Atlantic to the south and west of Britain, and then drifted towards the Scottish coast over two or three weeks. The main suspect in the case is sonar, as it is known that beaked whales are highly sensitive to the powerful sound waves used by all the world's navies to locate underwater objects such as submarines.

Feds quiz congressional staff over treaty violation
A spokeswoman for President Bush today said she was unaware of a complaint raised by a former New Jersey policeman and U.S. citizen who was jailed – without access to consular services – in Canada for four years. However, the State Department has raised its level of interest into the concerns brought forward by former policeman Scott Loper, with one official quizzing a congressional staffer about the case and a security officer assigned to contact Loper's lawyer. The situation was brought to the attention of the State Department and Congress by Loper, who has described stumbling upon an alleged police-run drug ring in Canada in 2000. Loper says he was suddenly jailed before he could contact the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and his wife and son, Carolyn and Edward, disappeared while he was in custody. Just yesterday, members of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's staff ducked out of the controversy by claiming Canada had provided the State Department an unsigned "waiver" of Loper's rights under the international treaty regarding consular contacts. A civil rights lawyer working with Loper said the meeting with members of Hoyer's staff was unsuccessful because of the letter, which was accepted by staff members as valid even though it was dated three years after Loper was imprisoned and was unsigned, as well.

Economic Crisis Hits Florida Families and Elderly
Rising gas, food prices, stagnant tourism, construction industries, and the weak dollar have created an economic crisis in Broward County in southeast Florida, reports Spanish language El Sentinel newspaper. More than 55,000 people have left the county in the past two years, according to the Census. Only Detroit and Cleveland, have been hit harder. Zulma Ortiz, 50, plans to sell her mobile home and move to Daytona Beach. Her husband Alfredo Castell�n, 62, was immobilized by a stroke, and with a 9 year-old daughter, Ortiz’s $300 weekly paycheck doesn’t nearly pay for the family’s needs. Though already retired, Nelson Corrales, 72, has joined the growing ranks of the elderly who work because he needs the money. He took a job in a supermarket.

Longshoremen to close ports on West Coast to protest war
While millions of people worldwide have marched against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and last week's New York Times/CBS News poll indicated that 81 percent believe the country is headed in the wrong direction - key concerns being the war and the economy - the war machine inexorably grinds on. Amid this political atmosphere, dockworkers of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have decided to stop work for eight hours in all U.S. West Coast ports on May 1, International Workers' Day, to call for an end to the war. This decision came after an impassioned debate where the union's Vietnam veterans turned the tide of opinion in favor of the anti-war resolution. The motion called it an imperial action for oil in which the lives of working-class youth and Iraqi civilians were being wasted and declared May Day a "no peace, no work" holiday. Angered after supporting Democrats who received a mandate to end the war but who now continue to fund it, longshoremen decided to exercise their political power on the docks.

Ludicrous Hit Piece Attacks Ventura On WTC Collapse Comments
An almost unbelievably absurd and weak hit piece against Jesse Ventura's contention that WTC 7 was deliberately imploded on 9/11 compares a 4-story church that was a stone's throw away from the twin towers with a 47-story skyscraper that was nearly 400 feet away. Responding to the former Minnesota Governor's recent appearance on Fox News, CHQR radio host Rob Breakenridge writes, "Ventura obviously thinks this sounds very clever, but there's one point on which he's factually incorrect: it was more than three buildings. The twin towers (1WTC & 2WTC) obviously collapsed, as did 7WTC - the three buildings Ventura cites. What he neglects to mention is that 3WTC (Marriott Hotel) and St. Nick's Cathedral also collapsed that day." Let's start with Breakenridge's absurd example of St. Nicholas Church as a building that was destroyed by the twin towers' collapse on 9/11. This is a picture of the 4-story Church building. It stands in the shadow of the 1362-foot tall south tower. To compare this with a gigantic 576-foot tall skyscraper that would be the tallest building in most major cities and stands a full 355 feet away from the north tower is patently ludicrous. The humble church building is like an ant compared to the colossal south tower, of course it would have been crushed when the south tower collapsed. How on earth can Breakenridge draw a parallel between this tiny building and a gigantic skyscraper that was nearly half as tall as the twin towers?

Do female politicians represent an ‘Ethical and Pure’ force?
Hillary still hasn’t come clean on where her $5 million campaign loan came from. She refused to release her Senate earmark requests, even after Barack Obama made known his list. Most comical of all, she claimed that she and daughter Chelsea had to duck sniper fire during a 1996 trip to Bosnia. “We were basically told to run to our cars,” Clinton told her audience. Oh well, it made for a good sound-bite. Betsey Wright, confidante to Hillary Clinton, once bragged that women represent an “ethical and pure force” in politics. And Hillary recently stated a female president would represent a “sea change in our country.” It’s not just the Lefties who are saying it’s time for a housecleaning of politics as usual. And Jo-Ann Davidson, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, has argued that “We have better public policy when more women are at the table.” There’s no doubt that women bring a valuable perspective to the political arena. But do female politicians really exemplify an ethical uber-species?

The Final Trump Of Britain Over America
Unlike the 17th Century battles fought on American soil to give us our independence from Great Britain, the final battle of brilliant maneuvers and institutions began in 1903 to delicately orchestrate the gradual reintegration of the United States with Great Britain. The military genius of the plan would be for American armies to unite with Britain in the name of world peace; the common enemy being, WWI, WWII, and the war on terrorism. The second wave would be on an international level to bring order to a disorderly global market while merging financial and regulatory authorities. It was the money of one man that started the ball rolling. Cecil John Rhodes, a British aristocrat who died in 1902, funded the merger by leaving his gold and diamond fortune as a means to bring America back under British rule, believing the British was the finest race in the world. Those agreeing with his mission included many wealthy American industrialists who, in 1903, pledged allegiance to the British Crown when they founded the Pilgrim Society. This powerful society still meets today as a secret membership. If you listen to the words of our politicians, such as New York Senator Charles Schumer and former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer you can hear their approval of anything British for America. It is the men of the Pilgrim Society who determined the best way to re-unite the countries was to get America to come in on the side of the British during WWI, continuing through with World War II. Now the British have come to our aid with the war on Iraq and the War on Terrorism. Rhode's fortune also helped to fund the creation of the Royal Institute for International Affairs-RIIA in England, which is a key think-tank creating ideas and procedures in how best to merge our countries. The US counterpart is our Council on Foreign Relations. It was the Scottish industrialist turned American, Andrew Carnegie, who endowed America with its library system in his belief it would be good to re-unite the two countries into the "British-American Union."

'McDonald's disingenuous about homosexuality'
McDonald's restaurants, famed for the Golden Arches, Ronald McDonald and kids meals, launched an e-mail response defending its advocacy for homosexual influences in business after the American Family Association alerted its constituency about the company's activities. But the AFA now is calling on the giant fast-food corporation to be honest in its discussion. "Here is the indisputable fact about McDonald's: McDonald's joined the [National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce] and have a position on the NGLCC Board of Directors," AFA said in a statement on its website. The AFA recently had sent its alert to supporters regarding McDonald's joining the special-interest organization, which lists McDonald's on its website as a "corporate partner and organization ally" for an undisclosed financial contribution, and the company's installing one of its officers on the NGLCC board. In response, McDonald's has been dispatching e-mails justifying its actions.

U.N. Troops Fire On Starving Haitians
Protests erupted in cities across Haiti on Monday in response to rising poverty and hunger and to the seeming indifference of the large United Nations mission in that country. In the capital city, Port-au-Prince, thousands protested in front of the presidential palace. As BBC News reported, “Witnesses say the protesters used metal bins to try to smash down the palace gates before UN troops fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse them.” “The demonstrators outside the presidential palace said the rising cost of living in Haiti meant they were struggling to feed themselves. ‘We are hungry,’ they shouted, before attempting to smash open the palace gates.” Protests spread across the country. The countrywide demonstrations started with two days of protest in Les Cayes, Haiti’s third largest city. According to a Haiti Information Project report, on April 2, “More than 3000 demonstrators surrounded a UN compound that houses Uruguayan troops who reportedly opened fire on the crowd.” The next day, over 5000 protesters set up flaming barricades throughout the main downtown area of the city and paralyzed traffic for several hours. They attacked the fence of the headquarters of United Nations forces in the area.

Mumps found to have made alarming comeback in U.S.
Mumps made an alarming comeback in the United States in 2006 and may take years to completely eradicate, federal health experts reported on Wednesday. The outbreak of the viral disease came despite the widespread use of a second dose of a mumps vaccine, produced by Merck, beginning in 1990. Eighty-four percent of the people between the ages of 18 and 24 who became ill in the outbreak had received the second recommended dose, the researchers reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. "A more effective mumps vaccine or changes in vaccine policy may be needed to avert future outbreaks and achieve the elimination of mumps," Gustavo Dayan of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta and colleagues wrote. There were no deaths from the virus, which can be as mild as a fever and swollen glands, or severe enough to cause deafness, testicular inflammation and encephalitis. But there were 6,584 cases nationwide and 85 hospitalizations, most concentrated in eight midwestern states and on college campuses.

14 structural engineers now publicly challenge the government's account of the destruction of the Trade Centers on 9/11: A prominent engineer with 55 years experience, in charge of the design of hundreds of major building projects including high rise offices, former member of the California Seismic Safety Commission and former member of the National Institute of Sciences Building Safety Council (Marx Ayres) believes that the World Trade Centers were brought down by controlled demolition. Two professors of structural engineering at a prestigious Swiss university (Dr. Joerg Schneider and Dr. Hugo Bachmann) said that, on 9/11, World Trade Center 7 was brought down by controlled demolition. Kamal S. Obeid, structural engineer, with a masters degree in Engineering from UC Berkeley, of Fremont, California, says: "Photos of the steel, evidence about how the buildings collapsed, the unexplainable collapse of WTC 7, evidence of thermite in the debris as well as several other red flags, are quite troubling indications of well planned and controlled demolition"

Global warming mistakes have been made
The IPCC's computer models, used to predict the effects of global warming, it appears, failed to accurately predict the influence that water vapour has on the temperature of the earth. At the global climate change summit in Bali late last year, Dr Roy Spencer presented a paper to the IPCC, saying that rather than CO2 driving the formation of water vapour, which then drives up temperatures as a greenhouse gas, water vapour actually washes excess CO2 out of the atmosphere, dampening and balancing its affect as a greenhouse gas. This discovery was made thanks to weather satellites that showed water vapour forms a lot lower in the atmosphere than was initially suggested. Shock horror, the finely balanced system that is the global ecosystem is able to keep itself in balance... who'd have thought it?!

Ventura’s notoriety as a fiercely independent upstart may have kept Hannity, for one, from playing his usual dirty tricks. As former Governor, Ventura may be the highest level official in the United States to take 9/11 truth questions seriously, yet his enduring popularity and success as a celebrity, wrestler, Hollywood star, Navy SEAL and even Harvard professor make him more difficult to diffuse and ignore than celebrities who have previously come forward or Congressmen who have flirted with raising questions.

Feds backtracking: an admission on National ID
Many Americans believe the push for a national ID came about because of 911. The same applies to the nefarious and unnecessary Department of Homeland Security. Wrong on both accounts. Back on July 22, 1999, Wired.com carried an article titled: 'Your license or your life': "At a hearing Thursday, the House Immigration subcommittee will debate the future of modified driver licenses, which detractors derisively call a "national ID card." "The ACLU is part of a coalition with other liberal groups, such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Electronic Privacy Information Center. But the alliance also includes arch-conservative organizations: the Eagle Forum, the Free Congress Foundation, and Americans for Tax Reform. "The organizations found common ground in what they uniformly believe is a serious threat to privacy. "Proposals for a national ID have been consistently rejected in the United States as an infringement of personal liberty," said a recent coalition letter urging Congress to nix the current law. "We care about this hearing because there are other members that are receptive to privacy concerns. While Lamar Smith is on the other side, other members need to hear what's going on," said Lori Cole, a spokesman for the Eagle Forum's office in Washington. For his part, Smith angrily denies that he's Big Brother incarnate in a note he posted on his Web site: "I do not support a national ID card and don't know anyone who does."

Done Dare Call It Depression
Worries about a deep recession — not a shallow one — drove Fed policymakers to again slash a key interest rate last month, according to minutes of their closed-door meeting. Even as the Fed battled in almost unprecedented fashion to stem a widening credit and housing slump, some Fed members fretted over the possibility of a "prolonged and severe" business downturn. It was in that environment that they voted — with two dissents — to cut this important interest rate by three-quarters of a percentage point, to 2.25 percent. That action capped the most aggressive Fed intervention in a quarter-century.Some Fed policymakers thought that such a widening recession could not be ruled out given the further restriction of credit availability and "ongoing weakness in the housing market," according to the meeting minutes that were made public Tuesday. Two Fed's members — Charles Plosser, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas — opposed such a big rate reduction, however. They favored a smaller cut because of concerns about a potential inflation flare-up. It was a crack in the mostly unified front that the fed often has projected to the public. On the one hand, the Fed has been urgently moving to prevent the trio of economic woes — housing, credit and financial_ from plunging the country into a deep recession. On the other hand, with soaring energy prices and high food costs, policymakers realize that they can't afford to let inflation get out of control, either.

Chinese Paramilitary Thugs Policed London Torch Relay
Fresh outrage has erupted over the Olympic torch procession after it emerged that the blue-clad thugs witnessed manhandling protesters and barking orders during the torch relay in London were Chinese paramilitary police hired by Beijing and the British government to quell demonstrations. Officially know as the 29th Olympic Games Torch Relay Flame Protection Unit, this gaggle of bullies were in actual fact, "Picked from special police units of the People's Armed Police, China's internal security force." The requirements for the job: to be "tall, handsome, mighty, in exceptional physical condition similar to that of professional athletes," the state-run China News Service said. The government-hired heavies were also taught to bark a few words of English for the purposes of ordering around torch bearers. This cadre of gang members honed their expertise in martial arts, marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat, and are trained to brutally suppress demonstrations and farmer's uprisings in China which routinely result in the slaughter of scores of protesters who dare stand up to the Communist police state.

Transformation by Crises and Syntheses
Some years ago, Ervin Laszlo of the UN Institute for Training and Research spoke about how various crises and a change in man could create a critical instability resulting in a transformation to a New World Order. As I’ve written before, the power elite wants a New World Order with ultimate control over us. However, they have to have an excuse for intervening in our lives. This is accomplished by the use of crises (followed by syntheses), and this article focuses on domestic and international examples of this process. In Naomi Klein’s THE SHOCK DOCTRINE (2007), she explains the use of crises to promote a “new colonialism” around the world. She indicates the doctrine works as follows: “The original disaster (crisis) � the coup, the terrorist attack, the market meltdown, the war, the tsunami, the hurricane � puts the entire population into a state of collective shock. The falling bombs, the bursts of terror, the pounding winds, serve to soften up whole societies much as the blaring music and blows in the torture cells soften up prisoners. Like the terrorized prisoner who gives up the names of comrades and renounces his faith, shocked societies often give up things they would otherwise fiercely protect.” Domestically, the power elite uses “crises,” such as in the area of mental health, as a pretext for intervention. According to the U.S. Surgeon-General’s 1999 Report on Mental Health, over 20% of all children aged 9-17 meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis. This led to President George W. Bush forming the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health (NFCMH) in 2002, and two years later it produced “Achieving the Promise: Transforming Mental Health Care in America” (remember the word “transforming” used here). The document called for establishing statewide systems to screen all Americans beginning at birth. One state after another began to comply, with the Indiana legislature, for example, on July 1, 2006 amending the school code to consolidate all mental health services “from birth to 22 years of age.”

US Fed Prepares for More Bank Failures In Wake of Housing Market Collapse
It seems that the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation is getting ready for more financial institutions to fail as world credit markets convulse in the wake of the US housing collapse and a flight from SIVs... structured investment vehicles which are highly leveraged, complicated, based on assumptions now proven to be plain wrong, and now considered “toxic”. “The FDIC is looking to bring back 25 retirees from its division of resolutions and receiverships. Many of these agency veterans likely worked for the FDIC during the late 1980's and early 1990's, when more than 1,000 financial institutions failed amid the savings-and-loan crisis.‘Regulators are bracing for well over 100 bank failures in the next 12 to 24 months'...” Damian Paletta, Feb.27, 2008 Wall Street Journal. Who would have thought we'd see Bear Stearns (the fifth-largest US investment bank) start the cleansing process off and fail after having survived the Great Depression and a dozen recessions over the past 85 years. Bear shareholders were horrified to see their investment vaporize from $170 twelve months ago to the $2.00 offered by JP Morgan in a Fed-backed bail-out orchestrated to head off a full scale global rout. Meanwhile, Standard & Poor's has just downgraded Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers from “Stable” to “Negative Outlook”, and some analysts are wondering whether Citibank (which two years ago was leveraged 22:1 and is now leveraged 42:1) may be a good “short”. Since the early 90's the number of FDIC employees has dropped from around 15,000 to some 4.500. The agency will also need to seek outside help to enable it to properly oversee the 8,000 plus financial institutions for which it insures accounts.

Oil Prices Above $112 As Supplies Fall
The price of oil has surged to a new record, with a barrel a crude trading above $112 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. A government report that oil and fuel supplies were lower than expected last week gave crude a push past its latest milestone. But months of buying by speculators and by investors seeking refuge from a falling dollar have also lifted oil to its new heights. Light, sweet crude for May delivery has traded as high as $112.16, surpassing the previous trading record of $111.80 set last month.

False alarms and climate change
Dire predictions about the future of prosperous capitalist living remain trendy, despite decades of well-documented exaggeration. Al Gore claims a consensus in regard to his "planetary emergency" of global climate change from fossil-fuel burning. The science is "settled," the editorial page of Science magazine claimed last year. And note the title of a recent conference at the Baker Institute at Rice University: "Beyond Science: The Economics and Politics of Responding to Climate Change." But as columnist George F. Will has observed in reference to climate science, "People only insist that a debate stop when they are afraid of what might be learned if it continues." Alarmism as an intellectual movement began in 1798 when Thomas Malthus predicted that food supply would fail to keep up with population growth, resulting in human misery and subsistence living. That was followed in the 1860s by the "coal panic" in England, brought on by an economist who forecast the imminent decline of the British coal industry. But coal, like agriculture, proved far more abundant than expected, and the alarms faded away.

Russian intelligence sees U.S. military buildup on Iran border
Russian military intelligence services are reporting a flurry of activity by U.S. Armed Forces near Iran’s borders, a high-ranking security source said Tuesday. “The latest military intelligence data point to heightened U.S. military preparations for both an air and ground operation against Iran,” the official said, adding that the Pentagon has probably not yet made a final decision as to when an attack will be launched. He said the Pentagon is looking for a way to deliver a strike against Iran “that would enable the Americans to bring the country to its knees at minimal cost.” He also said the U.S. Naval presence in the Persian Gulf has for the first time in the past four years reached the level that existed shortly before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Col.-Gen. Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, said last week that the Pentagon is planning to deliver a massive air strike on Iran’s military infrastructure in the near future. A new U.S. carrier battle group has been dispatched to the Gulf.
